What We Do

TAP, by SDS Industries, is the first commercially available consumer kiln controller that utilizes an intuitive graphical user interface to enable the glass or ceramic artist to immediately start programming and operating their kiln. TAP is designed as a drop in replacement for any existing 12-key PID kiln controller (glass or ceramic), such as an Orton AutoFire® 3000, Bartlett Instruments RTC 1000, or Sentry 2.0 Controller, or can be purchased as a standalone model.

SDS Technologies

Who We Are

SDS Industries is a new corporation formed by three Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) graduates. Each brings a unique perspective to the world of industrial automation.

SDS Industries expects to become a market leader in the design, development, and delivery of easy to use kiln control automation systems for hobby and professional artists.

Scott Shannon
President

Scott Shannon is a graduate of the College of Applied Science and Technology at RIT, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology. Scott identified a significant disconnect between current technology and the consumer options available in the kiln control domain. After performing comprehensive market research, Scott called on his team to develop a cutting edge, affordable product that could easily be retrofit to existing kilns or provided as a standalone control solution. Scott is responsible for all aspects of finance, accounting, and contracts as well as technical oversight in the development of SDS Industries’ products

Matt Quantz
Vice President, Engineering

Matt Quantz is a graduate of the College of Applied Science and Technology at RIT, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Technology. Matt brings significant experience to SDS Industries in the embedded electronics engineering field as he has successfully developed and produced several products in the Home Automation and Precision Temperature Control domains. Matt is responsible for all aspects of hardware, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

Brittany Gabel
Vice President, Marketing

Brittany Gabel is a graduate of the School for American Crafts at RIT, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass. Brittany’s experience as an artist and involvement within a growing glass community has been critical in establishing the vision and mission of SDS Industries.  Brittany’s intimate understanding of user needs provided unique insight into product design.  Brittany is responsible for all aspects of SDS Industries’ promotional materials, social media presence, website content, and continuing end-user perspective for software upgrades.
